Schools and learning settings

There are over 358 learning settings in Leeds (including children’s centres, schools, post-16 provision and specialist inclusive learning centres), and they all play a crucial role in making Leeds a child-friendly city and the best place to grow up.

Being a school on the outskirts of Leeds can sometimes mean we are disconnected from what our city has to offer. It is great we have Child Friendly Leeds that helps connect our pupils and schools together.

Leeds for Learning

Over the years, Child Friendly Leeds have worked with 150+ schools and learning settings on projects, events, and competitions. In a typical year, we have 4-5 opportunities to share with schools, including opportunities that come from our connections across the city, with businesses and ambassadors.

Leeds for Learning is the main platform CFL use to share information with schools in Leeds. We post regular news articles here, to keep schools up to date with our latest initiatives. This includes awareness raising and information sharing, as well as promotion of events and opportunities schools can get involved in.

Case study: Our recent event for International Women in Engineering Day was a great success

We recently partnered up with Arcadis to deliver a workshop for girls on ‘International women in Engineering day’. Using our network, we got some key partner organisations involved, including Buro Happold, West Yorkshire Combined Authority, Northern Rail, and Wellington Place. We supported in promotion of the event to schools and developed an exciting schedule for the day. The event was attended by around 40 students from primary, secondary and Leeds Mathematics School via Leeds for Learning.

“Just a quick email to say thank you so much for organising and running today's INWED event. The children thoroughly enjoyed it and particularly loved competing against others in the cups and spaghetti challenges also the venue was lovely and met all our needs. Please pass on our thanks to all the ladies that took time out of their busy schedules to talk to the children about how their journeys into engineering and who were happy to answer questions and assist the children with the challenges.”

Leeds Youth Voice

Child Friendly Leeds work closely with the Voice, Influence and Change team, who are behind the ‘Leeds Youth Voice’ initiatives in our city. They have a fantastic offer available to schools, including programmes with strong ties to British Values such as democracy.

Child Friendly Leeds (CFL) appreciate the amazing efforts by schools and learning settings to make children and young people’s experience of learning, the best it can be. We strive to give schools the recognition they deserve, especially those schools and learning settings who are going above and beyond in relation to one or more of the wishes.
